Christmas every day

Several years ago I was feeling tired and sleepy in the mornings, and couldn’t seem to pull myself out of the bed. I was missing valuable prayer time, and was sometimes late to classes and appointments.
As I began to pray about it, I remembered how I felt on Christmas morning when I was a little girl. My sisters and I couldn’t wait to get out of the bed to see what wonderful gifts were under our tree! My parents made a rule that we couldn’t leave our bedrooms until there was light in the sky, so we’d sit by the window, straining to see the first little bit of light breaking through—then we’d run into the living room, bounding with joy.
As I thought about this, I realized that every day is a sort of Christmas, because each day the Christ dawns more brightly in our hearts. It’s filled with new ideas, and wonderful inspirations from God.
When we’re expecting God’s gifts, we’ll spring out of bed, too! Start the day with gratitude and expectancy. “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift” (II Corinthians 9:15)!
