Symptoms of tendonitis end
In the fall of 2009, I began playing badminton for two hours a day, twice a week. About a month into the program, I began to notice symptoms of tendonitis, or “tennis elbow,” in my right arm. I confess I didn’t pay much attention to it at first, but after another few weeks the pain in my arm became so severe that I could no longer continue playing.
At this point I asked a Christian Science practitioner for treatment through prayer. For the next several weeks we worked together daily to understand more clearly my wholly spiritual nature as a child of God and that the source of my ability to play was not in matter but in Spirit. However, the problem did not ease during this time, and I was forced to sit out the remaining weeks of the badminton program.
During this time, I prayed to gain a more spiritual view of exercise. The textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, explains how to do this: “Divine Science, rising above physical theories, excludes matter, resolves things into thoughts, and replaces the objects of material sense with spiritual ideas” (p. 123).
