Letters

Hooray for the editorial “ ‘Women in Politics’: More than a talking point” in the October 22 Sentinel! I love the point that having more women in present-day politics might help our leaders work together better, which is no surprise as women worldwide are perceived as family nurturers. Yet as the editorial explains, God made all of us. The woman who started this magazine, Mary Baker Eddy, said it well. “Man is the family name for all ideas,—the sons and daughters of God” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 515). This article reminded me that because we’re in the same family, we all have the same surname, Man. Thanks, editors!

I just finished reading the “Letters” regarding Christine Driessen’s article, “Our pastor: the foundation for Christian healing,” in the October 15 Sentinel. Different readers have different views on which format “should” be used when studying the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson. What came to me was Mary Baker Eddy’s statement in Science and Health: “Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love—be it song, sermon, or Science [Full Text, my Bible Lesson, eBible Lesson, CD, or the actual books]—blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ’s table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty” (p. 234). The bottom line seems to be, whichever format gives each individual the most inspiration, transformation, and healing is the best to utilize for that individual.
