Expect results

Just like those brilliant trees pictured on our cover this week, perhaps you’ve reached for the light, for a higher perspective of your life, that caused you to grow and change for the better. If you’re reading this magazine, there’s a good possibility your life has been (and is being!) transformed by Christian Science and the ideas in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy. The very first line in the preface of the book promises transformation: “To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings” (p. vii). When we begin to glimpse the presence and power of God in our lives, we see each moment filled with divine goodness that’s constantly available—and that translates into healing.

You’ll notice an expanded News of Healing section in this issue (starting on page 22), as well as several healing experiences of people who were new to Christian Science. Leslie Coughtry learned about Christian Science after doctors diagnosed her with inoperable brain cancer. But, as she says, “I believed with everything in me that nothing would be impossible if I trusted God, and I would have a complete healing,” (see “My new hold on life,” p. 9).

In our cover story, Nate Talbot discusses the connection between spiritual transformation and salvation. He explains, “Salvation is the step-by-step transformation of our life that includes both thought and body. . . . That includes a less material way of thinking about life and a more spiritual way of acting in daily life” (see “Christian Science: salvation or healing?” p. 6). That’s something we can all begin to practice—and expect to see the results.
