JESUS AS INSPIRED STORYTELLER

THIS WEEK'S Bible Lesson, titled "Christ Jesus," highlights Jesus' ministry as a teacher. Using parables and metaphors, he taught his listeners truths in ways they could understand. Although scholars debate which of his sayings are authentic, there is agreement that his parables are an authentic tradition of his.

As a spiritual teacher herself, Mary Baker Eddy understood that "spiritual teaching must always be by symbols" (Science and Health, citation 16).

Jesus was a bold teacher who knew that his teaching came from God. He said, "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30, cit. 4). Those who listen to his teachings and follow them in their daily lives are like the man whose house withstood a flood because he'd built the foundation on a rock (Luke 6:47, 48, Responsive Reading). This parable is one of seven running through the Lesson.
