DEEP SPIRITUAL STUDY SUPPORTS SEVERAL HEALINGS

In the spring of 2009, I began doing a lot of research in the concordances to the writings of Mary Baker Eddy on substance and matter, as well as other topics. I wanted to understand more fully the ideas in "the scientific statement of being" (see Science and Health, p. 468) and to demonstrate them in my life. I treasured this study, and through it I was gaining a clearer sense of what substance is and what it isn't, and had opportunities along the way to put into practice what I was learning.

I was praying about an unsightly mole that had formed at the base of my neck. I kept on with my research, grateful for glimpses into the fact that spiritual substance alone is actual, sustained by spiritual law, and that matter—in this case, an abnormal growth—had no such law to define or support it, since God is the only lawgiver. As such, the growth was illegitimate and had no business being there. Soon, it just dropped off, and the skin surrounding it returned to normal, with no sign of where the mole had been.

Then one night, while walking the dog, I fell in the street near our house and severely injured my wrist. The pain was intense, and soon there was significant bruising. For some time, I couldn't use that hand to lift anything or for other tasks that required any exertion. I had to work at trying to position my wrist in ways that allowed me to sleep at night without excessive pain.
