FOR TEENS

SLIP SLIDIN' ON THE SOCCER FIELD

This past summer I worked as a cabin counselor at a camp for Christian Scientists. Part of my job as a counselor was to teach several classes throughout the day, including soccer class. The camp is structured in two-week sessions, and during one of those sessions it had been raining a lot, so the soccer field was very soggy and muddy.

One rainy day, I asked a buddy of mine if he would be willing to teach a special mud soccer class with me, and with no hesitation he was up for it. We offered the class and had many campers sign up. After warming up with a little bit of "splish splash in the mud," we started a game of mud soccer.

About halfway through the game, I slipped and injured my foot. The skin between two of my toes was deeply cut, and the injury looked so severe that I was afraid that was the end of my summer. I thought I wouldn't be able to continue with my duties as a counselor and would have to go home. As I lay on the ground, everything seemed to be saying, "You can't get up and enjoy the rest of camp."
