OUR CHILDREN'S HEALINGS
Several years ago in July our family was packing to go on vacation to Lake Chelan in eastern Washington. Two days before we were leaving, my then four-year-old daughter woke up in the morning and seemed to be running a fever and was also covered with red spots. I immediately began to pray, as I was taught in Christian Science, and to know that she was God's pure and innocent child, and that God was governing every aspect of her being. I remember taking a firm stand in my thinking for my daughter's spiritual perfection and for God's omnipotence, realizing what Mary Baker Eddy said in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "... the physical senses must give up their false testimony" (p. 192). I also called a Christian Science practitioner to support us through prayer.
When my husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, looked at our daughter, he was fearful and asked me to take her to the pediatrician. So I made an appointment and took her in that day. The doctor said she had the Fifth Disease, that her fever would get worse before it got better, that she would have to stay out of the sun for ten days, and that there was nothing they could do and the illness would have to run its course. I thanked him, and as I drove home, I trusted that there was "no more course" for this illness to run, because my daughter could never be separated from good, God. I remember feeling very calm and assured that God was governing everyone, and that Love was present and was all that could be evidenced. I knew that she was God's child, that she was "hid with Christ in God" (Col. 3:3), safe in His care, and that she was really subject only to God's law and not material theories about health.
That night her fever broke, and I was so grateful. The next morning, when she woke up, every spot was gone. We went on vacation the next day, and she had a wonderful time in the sun with not one symptom of the sickness remaining. Also, nobody else in our home was affected by this supposedly contagious disease.
