HEALING OF OSTEOARTHRITIS AND DYSPEPSIA

Reprinted from El Heraldo de la Ciencia Cristiana (Spanish Herald of Christian Science)

Before I found out about Christian Science, I suffered from pain in my joints, most of all in my shoulders and hips. When the doctor told me that I had the beginnings of osteoarthritis, I felt very anguished, thinking that I wouldn't be able to walk or work anymore. In addition, I also began to suffer from stomach pains, and the doctor told me I had the early symptoms of dyspepsia because of the quantity of anti-inflammatories I was taking to alleviate the other problem.

In 2006, I received a flyer announcing a Christian Science lecture. It was titled "Human problems, spiritual solutions," and I decided to attend. When the lecture was over, I remember that I left with a great feeling of peace. I then began to read the magazine El Heraldo, as well as other Christian Science literature and the Bible. That's how I found this quote in Jeremiah: "I will bring healing to you, and will heal your wounds" (30:17, according to the Reina-Valera Bible of 1960).

I felt this was a message for me. It gave me a lot of hope. Reading Science and Health helped me understand that God had made me free and not subject to suffering, and that pain was a form of fear. In one part of the book I read, "Hold perpetually this thought,—that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing ..." (p. 496). Through Christian Science I was learning that we are created as spiritual ideas of God. Also, the more I understood that God is Love, the more the fear I felt began to disappear. This passage from the Bible was very useful to me: "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear" (I John 4:18).
