NO EASY ANSWER
Why forgive? Over the years, as I've bumped up against this question, I've found the best answers, many of them lifelines, through my study of the Bible and the teachings of Christian Science. But let's just say I consider myself still on the road.
Here are a few ideas that have had a profound effect on my understanding of forgiveness:
• There's no end. Jesus taught his followers to forgive not once or twice, but seventy times seven. When you do the math, that's nearly 500 times. How many of us will have to forgive that many times in our lives? I think Jesus expected us to forgive over and over again. And in a way, not to keep a tally.
