THE POWER OF GOD'S WORD

As You Might Expect, this week's Christian Science Bible Lesson, titled "God," focuses on the Creator's nature, as well as on His righteousness, His care, His perfect workmanship, His Son, and His kingdom within us. This Lesson also looks closely at the interrelationship of prayer and action.

Right from the start, we're urged to remember the closeness of God and all He has done for us. The Responsive Reading reminds us how God cared for the children of Israel in the wilderness, and how they really needed continuing help for 40 years. As a result of prayer, they became living witnesses to God's care. They fulfilled their quest and became a proud nation in a land where they were free to "eat bread without scarceness" and didn't "lack any thing in it" (Deut. 8:9).

This is just one of many narratives in the Bible that have become great teaching tools. Very often such stories show you how to act as a result of prayerful searching, especially when statements of law are terse and can leave you wondering just how they relate to daily life.
