For several years, I was plagued with migraine headaches. At first, they occurred almost daily and were of such a debilitating nature that all I felt I could do was sit still with my eyes closed because of a sensitivity to light. Each time, I would call a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me because it was very difficult to pray for myself or to stay focused on spiritual truths. I felt under siege and needed some reinforcement to lift my thoughts above fear and the feeling of being victimized and helpless.

The next step toward healing came when I began to listen to recordings of the Bible, the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and the Christian Science Bible Lessons during these episodes. As I more diligently disciplined myself to look away from a body in pain (see Science and Health, p. 261), and to think about the healing ideas I was hearing, I found it easier and easier to be inspired.
