'NOW IS THE TIME'

As A Little Girl, I saw that prayer works. I witnessed many healings at my Christian Science school and the summer camp I attended. Many times, I saw a camper praying with another camper, or a student sharing ideas with a fellow student. One time, I remember praying beside a friend who'd been having extremely depressing and dark thoughts, and soon she was freed from them. Another time, a friend who was ill asked if I would read her passages from the Bible and Science and Health. That same afternoon, she felt completely well, and the two of us bounced off to the mall.

After graduating from college, I taught school and then moved on to co-own a bed-and-breakfast with my mother. By then, I'd married and had two small children. We were just getting ready to expand the business when I had a big revelation during the most mundane moment.

One day while scrubbing a bathroom, preparing for a bed-and-breakfast guest, the idea "now is the time" to open a Christian Science practitioner's office came to me unexpectedly (see II Cor. 6:2). I realized that I'd always loved being hospitable, but this new step would be an opportunity to help others spiritually by praying for them. That night I told my husband about my new plans. A look of reservation spread across his face, but he graciously agreed than it was the right thing to do.
