'I COULD MOVE AND WALK FREELY'

I've always loved sports and have been involved with athletics for many years. I started playing organized sports when I was about eight years old, and played through high school as well as four years of soccer and ice hockey when I was in college. Though knee injuries are often considered commonplace in sports, I had never experienced any problems with my knees during countless hours of training and competition.

Last August, however, while I was coaching high-school boys during preseason soccer practice, I suddenly felt that something had moved out of place in my knee. At first I thought it was just a twinge and that it would go away on its own, but over the next several hours, my knee began to swell, and the pain worsened to the point that I had trouble walking.

I have always actively prayed for myself before, during, and after sporting events to maintain an awareness of God's protecting power, which includes not only me but all those participating. So when this situation occurred, I felt prepared to challenge it. I knew that God is everywhere and is lovingly governing His entire creation. As Science and Health brings out: ". . . there is no room for imperfection in perfection" (p. 424).
