NO REGRETS

AFTER YEARS OF JOYFUL MARRIAGE, my husband and I were delighted when our daughter, Glenna, arrived—just before our ninth wedding anniversary.

Throughout my pregnancy we kept a special notebook. One section was for citations from the Bible and Science and Health, as well as quotes from the Christian Science magazines that inspired us. The other two sections contained letters to the baby from my husband and me. The entries documented our preparations and told of our excitement and happiness about sharing our lives with the baby.

Having felt all that eager anticipation, I never expected to find the first weeks of parenting so challenging. But when Glenna was a newborn, my husband worked 12-hour days, an hour's drive from home. So I had long stretches of time alone with the baby. Those days were difficult, especially when Glenny had occasional crying bouts.
