Words to live (and love) by

Valentine's Day is known for gifts, romantic gestures, and a huge marketing effort on the part of retailers. This day is increasingly celebrated—and sometimes dreaded—throughout the world. But there's no doubt that beyond the flowers and candy, this day can also be a catalyst for discussion about relationships, commitment, and marriage.

Recently, Sentinel staff editor Jenny Roemer spoke with a group of people in their 20s and 30s about the "Marriage" chapter in Science and Health. Participants held an informal "book club" discussion over the phone. They included BRONWYN CORRY, a single woman from North Carolina; ROBIN WEILAND AND DAN KOLUBINSKI, a married couple from Canada; and SCOTT AND SHIRRA BASTON, a married couple from Massachusetts.

Jenny Roemer: Can you think of any examples when this chapter on marriage in Science and Health has been relevant to you?
