COMPLETE AND QUICK HEALING OF BURN

ONE EVENING in April 1997, as I was preparing dinner, a panful of pasta noodles and boiling water poured over my leg. I was wearing leggings made of a synthetic fabric, and the scalding water literally melted the pants into my leg.

My older daughter, a high school freshman, was in the kitchen at the time and helped remove my pants. Neither one of us was prepared for what we saw. My thigh was burned to the top of my knee.

I'd learned in Christian Science that, as the Bible says, I was made spiritual, in God's image and likeness (see Gen. 1:27). My inclination was to pray, and I knew that my prayer needed to begin with that basic truth. This statement from Science and Health with key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, helped me stay with my prayers and put myself fully in God's care: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" (p. 463).
