SWIFT HEALING OF INJURED HAND
A couple of years ago, I was cleaning up in the kitchen after dinner. I turned on the garbage disposal and then quickly turned it off when I heard something wasn't grinding up properly. I put my hand in, but too soon, because the disposal blades had not wound down yet. I quickly pulled my hand out, but my fingers hurt and I felt they'd been damaged.
Right then, I made the decision not to look at my hand. My practice being to pray for the healing of physical illness or injury, I knew that it was important to eradicate discordant thoughts and images, and to replace them with an understanding of spiritual truth. So I pressed my hand to my chest, covering it with a paper towel to keep from looking at it, and immediately declared an important spiritual fact, that there are no accidents under God's government. Then, I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful treatment.
A passage from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy supports my spiritual affirmations in that moment, "When an accident happens, you think or exclaim, 'I am hurt!' Your thought is more powerful than your words, more powerful than the accident itself, to make the injury real.
