Beyond your vote

Some have characterized it as the most important election in US history. On November 4, Americans will head to the voting booths to elect their 44th president. The end result will set a historical precedent either way—with the election of the first woman vice president or the first black president. And of course, the United States isn't the only nation gearing up for elections.

With the stakes so high, and so many hotly contested issues hanging in the balance, the mere mention of a favored candidate can cause tension among the best of friends. And we asked ourselves, what can the Sentinel add to the discussion that lifts it above the division of party lines, to a more spiritual view of government?

It really comes down to one question: Who's in charge? And the answer to that question—fully understood and trusted—absolves fear and reveals eternal harmony. The great I AM, the one God, governs and maintains His creation in perfect order. Mary Baker Eddy defined "I Am" in part in the Glossary of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures as "the only Ego" (p. 588). Imagine that—just one ego! God never divides His children into parties.
