'HEALINGS TO PRAISE GOD'
From childhood I'd attended many different churches. Then I began to watch Christian Science television programs that were broadcast at the time, where people shared how they'd been healed. As a result, I became involved in Christian Science. Throughout the years since then, healings from prayer alone have been continuous in my life.
My first healing was of a growth on my eyelid. I'd already had one removed surgically. When this one appeared, I prayed with the new ideas I was learning—particularly this sentence from Science and Health: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" (p. 463). It made so much sense to me. I'd been learning that as God's expression I was spiritual, not material. So how could something ugly and wrong attach itself to me? Suddenly I saw that this truth of God would remove it.
Still, I kept looking in the mirror to see if the growth was gone. As I kept praying I came across another helpful sentence: "Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality" (Science and Health, p. 261). Then I decided that the right thing to do was to stop looking in the mirror—even as I mentally looked to God to see my true identity as the expression of spiritual qualities, such as love and joy, peace and harmony.
