KIDNEY PROBLEM HEALED

Ever since I was a teenager I'd suffered from kidney troubles, and had been treated medically for this. When my first daughter was born, the doctors told me that because of this condition I would not live more than ten years. They also said that I would have to take medication for the rest of my life. All this made me feel sorry for myself because I thought I did not deserve so much suffering.

My husband, who was a Christian Scientist, gave me a copy of Science and Health to read. But I didn't pay too much attention to it. One day, though, I began to read the first lines of the Preface. It says there, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to–day is big with blessings" (p. vii). This comforted me very much because, in addition to feeling very dependent on a lot of medications, I lived with many fears, especially of being alone when my husband traveled on business.

Four years passed, and then my health deteriorated considerably. That's when I agreed to attend a Christian Science lecture to find out more about Christian Science and how it heals. I liked what I heard at the lecture so much that I began to take my reading of Science and Health more seriously. I soon understood that this was what I'd been looking for, because I yearned to find the safety, tranquillity, and peace promised to us by God.
