A way out of stressing out
This week's Sentinel offers a way out of the pull on each of us to stress out It sure doesn't feel as if anyone can escape from feeling pressured about one thing or another. As soon as one concern lifts, another tries to settle in like a heavy ball bouncing randomly about.
Yet another meaning of stress is "to add emphasis." And it occurred to me recently that in an effort to counteract stress, I could emphasize the good I saw, the love and joy I naturally feel are mine, rather than those "what-ifs" that say life is a mess.
But that wasn't enough—stress was still this thing bouncing about. Then suddenly my perspective shifted when I thought of the Bible's consistent revelation of God as Creator, as all good. Over and over the Scriptures show that God is in the details, fully responsible for the minutiae of our lives. With the emphasis on His control, false burdens lift away.
