"FOR HISPANICS visiting Boston's Back Bay, a main tourist attraction is the Christian Science World Headquarters. The First Church of Christ, Scientist, with its elegant Renaissance architecture and cupola ... is alongside a small Romanesque-style stone church, both of which border a plaza that reflects their splendor in a long pool-fountain. However in recent years, this church is not only a tourist site, but also those living in Boston and Massachusetts are attending religious services offered there in Spanish.
"Mary Baker Eddy wrote Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures which shows the spiritual significance and the Practicality of the Bible. As a result of understanding this, one can be healed of any physical ailment, economic situation, moral or personal relationship, etc.... In her day Mary Baker Eddy championed and defended civil rights for women, and she gave recognition and importance to the role of women ignored in other religions.
" 'When I arrived in Boston, not speaking English, I felt discriminated against in my work as a housekeeper. I felt so alone and became depressed. I was bitter toward those who discriminated against me. Then it got worse----my doctor said I had to have a biopsy of one of my breasts. I knew about the Christian Science church from their TV program, so I phoned. I asked for Christian science treatment, and I started to learn how to pray as taught in the book Ciencia Salud con Clave de las Escrituras by Mary Baker Eddy, and the next day, when I went to the hospital, they didn't find anything wrong in the biopsy. I was completely healthy, and from that day on things improved at work. I stopped feeling depressed, and my relationships with the people who had been humiliating me and discriminating against me began to improve. I didn't feel the bitterness any longer. Now people are more friendly with me; affirmed Carmen Suarez (Bolivian).
