The Gospel of Luke in The Mother Church

Last month, to mark National Bible Week in the United States, the book of Luke in the New Revised Standard Version was read in its entirety over two evenings in the Extension of The Mother Church in Boston.

Before and after the readings, the audience was invited to view a special exhibit of historical Bibles from The Mary Baker Eddy Library in the glass portico entrance of the Church. Honor Hill, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Library, explained that the Church's collection of over 400 Bibles, many donated by church members, includes Mrs. Eddy's personal Bibles, some with her notes in the margins. The special exhibit, titled "In the Voice of the People," includes a selection of four Bibles that illustrate the demand of people through the ages for translations into their own languages.

The Clerk of The Mother Church, Nate Talbot, welcomed the audience and invited Bible scholar and Sentinel contributing editor Elaine Follis to set the scene.
