'A WONDERFUL TIME OF PRAYER'
Around Christmastime a couple of years ago, I noticed a sore on my face. It began to get larger, and I became concerned. I have always depended on my study of Christian Science for everything, so I started to pray for myself—somewhat frantically at first—but the condition did not improve.
A well-meaning family member and a good friend urged me to take steps to address the situation. One of them told me that a simple medical procedure would take care of it. The other said, "I know you will depend on your religion, so whatever you do, you better do a lot of it!" But the thought came quickly, Even if you were told that medically this was considered a serious condition, you'd get busy on healing it through prayer, so why not heal the lie about the whole thing right now! Christian Science teaches that at its root, disease in any form involves a false or mistaken mental concept that can be eradicated through understanding the truth about God and His perfect creation.
Now I began to pray with a new thrust. I dedicated myself to studying the Bible and Science and Health. In the past, I had almost always called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful support with challenges, but this time, I felt the need to dig deep myself for a better understanding of the spiritual ideas I knew would heal me. I never thought I'd done as good a job of doing this as I could have. Now I wanted to really get close to God and understand the fundamental facts about my identity as His child.
