RASH QUICKLY HEALED
After I'd been out walking on my property one day, I noticed I had a rash covering much of my body. In line with the practice of Christian Science, I didn't try to figure out why I had the rash or where it came from, although it was similar to poison ivy rashes I'd had in the past. I wasn't constantly aware of the symptoms as I went about my daily activities, but the burning and itching would sometimes bother me, and I knew I wanted to focus my thoughts on prayer for healing, as I had learned to do in studying Christian Science.
I began with this passage from the Bible: "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord" (II Cor. 5:8). This was a powerful reminder to me that I wasn't setting out to heal my physical body, or focus on whether the rash was clearing up or getting worse. My job was to draw closer to God, my Maker, and to the truth about myself as His idea.
As I prayed, I also affirmed that my identity was entirely spiritual, derived from Spirit, and therefore that my existence was based on spiritual laws of good, not material laws of discord. In fact, material law had no say whatsoever in my well-being. Mary Baker Eddy wrote about this in Science and Health: "The so-called laws of health are simply laws of mortal belief. The premises being erroneous, the conclusions are wrong. Truth [God] makes no laws to regulate sickness, sin, and death, for these are unknown to Truth and should not be recognized as reality" (p. 184).
