EXPECT GOOD RESULTS BY HOLDING TO SPIRIT
Written for Der Christian Science Herold
In 1981, soon after moving to our present house, my husband and I assembled a long cupboard as a do-it-yourself project. In our dry basement with a cement floor, we put together an 8-door, 4-meterlong cupboard according to instructions. Because we had to screw on the back wall of the cupboard, it stood a half-meter away from the wall, and we were faced with the question: How will the two of us manage to get this long cupboard to the wall in one piece, without tearing out the connecting screws between the individual sections?
We asked the manufacturer how to best go about it, but they told us this would be absolutely impossible for two people to do, and that even with four people things could go wrong. It was already a bit too late to get help from neighbors, yet we wanted to get the work done. We thought back and forth, but didn't find a good answer.
It was high time to ask God for guidance. In the quietness of prayer, my husband suddenly thought, If Jesus is right that faith can move mountains, then it can definitely move this cupboard! But how? Then we experienced what Mary Baker Eddy described in this way: "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies" (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p. 307).
