MY STEPS OUTSIDE THE COMFORT ZONE

ONE NEW YEAR'S DAY I made a resolution to get out of my comfort zone. I had a zillion little fears that were holding me back from living my life to the fullest, and it bothered me. I also had one overriding challenge to my health—a year before, I had been robbed and assaulted late one night in my apartment, and now I had all the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, including depression and severe panic attacks. On top of that, my eyesight had become noticeably blurry, and I had a chronic sinus condition.

But here was the worst part. I had become so accustomed to this unbearable state of being that I was accepting it as part of my comfort zone. When I saw that, I wanted out.

This meant I had to be bold. I found strength from this passage in the New Testament: "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (II Tim. 1:7). I decided whatever I was afraid to do—or didn't like to do—I would do.
