NO DOUBLE FAULTING

ONCE, WHEN MY WIFE considered my involvement in competitive sports, she described me (not entirely in jest!) as "a poor loser, but a worse winner."

And she was probably right. But I believe I've come a long way since then. I'm now convinced that if I'd spent a bit more time in prayer before some of my high school and college games, I probably would have enjoyed a lot more success.

Looking back, I wish I had taken a moment to pray, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Phil. 4:13) as I stood in the on-deck circle, waiting to face a pitcher whose fastball seemed overpowering. Rather than feeling a sense of trepidation as I stepped into the batter's box, I would have been focused on the talents I brought to the plate as God's expression. Who knows, I might have raised my batting average above .300!
