INTRODUCE FAITH TO YOUR CHILD
TO THE CURRENT DISCOURSE on teen depression and suicide I feel compelled to add a comment or two. As others, I was touched by the earnestness and eager search for solutions at last Wednesday's forum on the subject at Concord-Carlisle High School.
My friend the Rev. John Hudson has graciously encouraged me to share my experience and offered me his usual space to voice my thoughts.
You see, I was a troubled teen. My parents divorced when I was just four. My dad beat and nearly killed my mom. Though she was a wonderful woman, she was very deeply disturbed. Her doctor prescribed sleeping pills and other sedatives. From time to time she would say, "The only reason I don't take an overdose of these pills and commit suicide is that I feel responsible for you two boys."
