'I wanted to be healed'
Originally published in O Arauto da Christian Science
Christian Science helps me live with tranquillity and confidence because I've learned how to express the qualities God has given me at home, at work, in my daily life. It has brought me immense comfort. I've learned to let myself be filled with good, just, pure, and joyous thoughts.
I've overcome a lot of difficulties through prayer, but one healing was particularly important to me. One day, I was working at home, and I got my hand stuck in a door that was closing very forcefully. I was not able to move my fingers, and the pain was intense. But suddenly I remembered words from "the scientific statement of being" in Science and Health: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. ... man is not material; he is spiritual" (p. 468).
The concept that there is no life in matter was very important to me, and I thought, "I am idea in the divine Mind, and an idea cannot be hurt. God created me with a lot of love, in His image and likeness. Nothing can affect the perfection of God that is in me."
