Housing needs solved through prayer

Originally published in O Arauto da Christian

I had been looking for an apartment to rent for more than one year. Every time I found something suitable and affordable, the real estate brokers rejected me because of my age. They would tell me unceremoniously, "You are very elderly. We can't sign a contract with you." And they would say this even though I had someone who would guarantee the lease. But I was 89, with no immediate family, and they considered this an impediment.

I was obliged to rent small rooms in boarding houses, but I had to move frequently because the accomodations were not very comfortable. They were noisy, and I had to share the bathroom.

I always prayed a lot about this situation. I knew I only wanted what was just. God's children have the right to a good place to live, and I knew that if I turned to God, there would be a solution. I love the psalms in the Bible, and many times the words of Psalms 23 would turn up in my dreams: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." I would wake up and continue, "... he leadeth me beside the still waters." This would give me tranquillity and hope. I felt I wasn't alone, so I didn't despair.
