Started in 1970 by the [Baptist] Woman's Missionary Union, Acteens is a missions organization for girls in grades 7-12. The group hosts conventions in different cities every four to five years. 'Our purpose is for girls to focus on the fact that God has a plan for the world and a unique plan for each of their lives,' said Andrea Mullins, a convention organizer. The Western Wall, one of Judaism's most holy sites, [is] part of the convention's Holy Land Flight, just one of many mock international cultural experiences the students [are] exposed to. ...

"Keeping with this year's convention theme of 'Syncro-Nations,' the convention's Global Village presented other distant cultural experiences as well, including a Japanese tea ceremony and a look into the lives of Christians living in China. ... 'It's important for girls to experience cultures beyond their own,' Mullins said. 'We're trying to expand a girl's vision. ... We want young women to know that they can influence their city by praying for leaders.'"
