Starting the day right

I love sleepovers at my granddaughters' house. I never fail to learn something helpful. A few weeks ago, for example, it was about how to begin the day.

At about seven o'clock in the morning I heard the tiniest voice coming from the next room: "Ee I ee I ... Twinkle, twinkle ... Ee I ee I ... A B C D Eeee ... I ee I oh!" And then a poignant little "Jesus loves me, this I know." It was two-year-old Brittany talking and singing to an audience of cushy stuffed animals.

Apparently, Brittany always wakes up singing—regardless of the weather, the temperature, or the day of the week. For the first half-hour of each morning, she sings and talks about love—and a whole stack of less important things—often in a very loud voice.
