Spiritual ideas bring physical healing

Written for Le Héraut de la Christian Science

Last summer, while travelling to work on the train, I opened the carriage's inner door a little too forcefully. I was wearing sandals, and one of my toes became wedged under the door.

The pain was intense, and when I sat down, I noticed the toe was bleeding. I began to pray to understand that right at that moment, I was living in God's kingdom, where God was governing His creation in complete harmony. I also immediately refused to reproach myself for my abruptness in opening the door.

I wrapped a handkerchief around my toes and continued to pray. But many fears assaulted me: How was I going to get to the office and work a full day? Was there danger of the wound becoming infected? Had any bones been damaged? I made an effort to turn my thoughts away from these worries and not to look at my toe. I wanted to focus only on ideas that bring healing and think only about the presence of God.
