ACTING—ON HOPE

For a few years, everything I worked on in the entertainment industry was mediocre or third rate at best. But from my study and practice of Christian Science, I knew the importance of looking beyond appearances. I also knew the importance of acknowledging God's presence, power, and goodness—no matter what.

During those years, I experienced quiet, holy, physical healings through reliance on God (including ones of unnatural bleeding, a lump in the body, a knee out of alignment, an injured ankle, and a painful back). I also saw the power of God's love to melt clashing temperaments in the workplace into respect and affection.

That reliance on God is what encouraged me to keep trusting His goodness when acting employment appeared to dry up for me altogether. My prayer gave me the idea of taking an introductory nursing course at a Christian Science nursing facility, for pay. That income enabled me to pay my rent that summer. What was much more important from that training was the reinforcement I received in seeing the necessity to love, cherish, nurture, and magnify the good in everyone's life, as well as my own.
