'Just what I need'

You never cease to amaze me with your timely articles. I had just finished lunch with a new healthcare professional friend whom I met at a recent health fair, and had been telling her about the two-week [Christian Science] healing study course that is offered, when I arrived home. And there was the wonderful issue about how to heal ["Can I learn to heal?" May 19], including an article on this class instruction. I immediately read it and gave it to my friend the next time we got together. Her response was, "Wow! This is just what I need." Thanks, Sentinel. You've done it again.

Ushering in joy

Many thanks for the issue dated May 19. The article titled "A course in healing" was exceptional. Each of the eight contributors has given encouragement to many readers. I have been saving various articles from the Sentinel for over 50 years. The magazine ushers much joy and peace into the world. May it continue in its good work.

Getting to know the Bible

Thank you for the article by Jeremy Carper titled "Striving to know God better," in the June 2 ["Lives changed for the better"] issue. The author's account of his study to understand the Bible better was particularly inspiring. This article serves as a reminder that to become more familiar with the Bible is to become more familiar with God. It is a reminder that can't come too often.

Word play

Thank you for yet another Spirit-filled issue of the Sentinel, and particularly for Annette Kreutziger-Herr's inspiring article "Where does change come from?" [June 2].

As someone conversant with Greek, I'd like to point out that the Greek word pneuma is accentuated exactly the same whether it means "wind" or "spirit." This makes the author's point about Jesus' play on the two meanings of the word (see John 3:8) even more poignant. The refreshing breeze the author must have enjoyed on her stroll that day was an unqualified expression of "the wonderful weightlessness and freedom of spiritual being" that worked healing changes in her life.

Topics right on target

Since discovering Christian Science in the 1970s, I have loved the Sentinel. Each issue travels with me, wherever I go, bringing healing to me and inspiration to anyone with whom I can share it.

As I have become more active in praying for my family, friends, community, and the world, I find that the Sentinel's topics are right on target and arrive almost simultaneously with my awareness of difficulties to pray about. Recent issues this year that have met many needs are: "The art of healing" [February 17], "Can I learn to heal?" [May 19], "Prayer-based immunity" [May 26], and now your latest, "Doorways to decision" [June 9].

In that issue, the article by Jan Libengood, "Open to ideas," really helps those who are learning to rely on God for direction and who are learning that they can trust that God, good, is always there for guidance. And I have already sent out copies of Mark Swinney's article in that same issue, "Beyone pre-performance stress," to many family members and friends. No matter what we do, whether it is in sports, the arts, school, or job-related activities, how wonderful and helpful it is to be reminded that we can't disappoint God ever, when our purpose and motive are to glorify Him. God always provides us with the abilities/qualities and opportunities to express Him.
