Touched by grace
One Night I Found Myself Sitting in a little log chapel with our local ecumenical contemplative prayer group. When we were asked to call to mind our shortcomings, my first thought was, "I'm too impatient with my loved ones."
The previous night I had been looking up at the stars before I went to bed, and it had occurred to me, "I am really content right now." Several years before, I had set goals regarding my work, home, and family. Now I had realized those goals. And I was enjoying a sustained period of peace.
But when I looked at my friends and loved ones, I saw a lot of people who were struggling. I think Sandra should move. I think Joe should change jobs. I think Carol and Bob should go into couples' counseling. I think if Ellen changed religions, she'd be healthier. I had advice for everyone!
