'My handshake stunned the doctor'
Original in French
One day while I was picking fruit I took a serious fall from a ladder. I was unconscious and was taken by helicopter to a medical center. In case of any emergency, I had given instructions that a Christian Science practitioner be called and asked to pray for me, and that was done.
When I was able to telephone the practitioner myself, she spoke to me about verses in the Bible that had immediately come to her when she was notified of my fall: "... and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the Lord stood above it ..." (Gen. 28:12, 13).
In thinking about this passage, I realized, as I think Jacob did, that God and His creation are always linked, and that therefore I was safe, then and there. I also had the conviction that the divine power always elevates and transforms the human condition; it never causes a fall or injury.
