Prayer protects family from violent abuse
In high school one of my very closest friends was a Christian Scientist. One day she gave me a book, saying, "I think you'll really find this of value." I accepted it, and as the years went on, I would pick it up during difficult times, and I always found something helpful. By the time I was in my 20s, I had married, and my husband and I soon had two little boys. When they were both under two years old, we moved to California.
During this time, my marriage became very, very difficult. My husband was argumentative, and soon this situation escalated to the point where he became verbally and physically abusive. Eventually I was beaten up, knocked down, raped—all kinds of things were happening—and I realized I was going to have to do something. I filed for divorce and moved, but not too far away so he could still see the children. Even though we were divorced, however, the abuse continued and even got worse. I went to court and got a temporary restraining order. The police came to know me and my situation quite well, because I called them so many times.
