HERE'S WHERE YOUR HOME IS

One time a family came to stay with us. Their young daughter was going to share a room with my grownup daughter.

When I went upstairs to see how she was settling in, I noticed that our little guest had placed birthday cards she'd recently received all around my daughter's room—on the window sills, on the dresser, everywhere. Setting out her treasured cards was her way of making herself at home in our home.

That small incident helped me understand that our home doesn't depend on a physical structure—that it's really in our heart. Whatever the housing situation, knowing this leads us to take the right steps in finding a place to live and/or adjusting to a new environment.
