The power of forgiveness
A daughter and her father set things straight.
A few years ago , just before my dad passed away, I sat by his bedside, holding his hand. Though we didn't share the same faith, we did share a love of the Bible. So I read him the 23rd Psalm and passages from St. John's writings about God's love. My last words to him as he quietly passed away were that God loved him and that I loved him.
What was remarkable to me—and what made this experience more beautiful than sorrowful—was that I meant every word. I felt the innocent, sincere love a daughter has for a father, unclouded by years of hurt and disappointment.
And that is the power of forgiveness.
