Prayer for a dental problem
For several years, when my dentist was cleaning my teeth, he would suggest that I go to a specialist for treatment of a tooth. I don't remember exactly what he said the problem was. The last time, the dentist said that the tooth was likely to fall out. I still didn't think about it enough to be concerned or to pray about it.
Recently, when I was departing on a trip to Syria, the tooth became loose. I was afraid that it was going to fall out—and it was so painful that I hoped it would.
In thinking about how I would find a dentist in Syria, I remembered a scene from a visit to Morocco. We stepped out of the bazaar to see three men in the city square. The first was a water man, with his brightly colored clothing and community cup, ready to sell a drink of water out of the polished brass dispenser on his shoulder. The second was a snake charmer, complete with basket and snake. The third was a tooth puller. On his table was a very large pile of teeth he had pulled.
