My mother was looking forward to getting new carpeting. After many years of hiding the footprints of young children with a dark-colored fabric, she was eager to lighten up her living area with a brighter tone.
She was out the morning the carpeting arrived, but her granddaughter Stephanie was on hand to assist the workmen.
When my mother returned later that afternoon, she whizzed into her living room with excitement. Not realizing she still was wearing sunglasses, she looked quizzically at the floor and said with a tinge of disappointment, "It's not as light as I thought."
