Strength returns following sudden weakness

I was on holiday with my husband, my sister, and my brother-in-law. We had flown out from England to cruise in the Caribbean, and early in the holiday we were enjoying a snorkeling excursion off the coast of Mexico. We had been in the water some time, when suddenly I couldn't go any further. All strength drained from my body, and I couldn't breathe; I could only gasp. We were behind the main party, but my sister, who was behind us, came out to help my husband get me to shore.

My prayer for help was wordless, listening for thoughts from God. With hindsight I can say I had an intuitive sense that God was supporting us, and I was not afraid. I soon learned that the people in charge of the snorkeling centre were extremely fearful and had called an ambulance. A police car also arrived. The police officer insisted I be taken to hospital. My husband stood firm in insisting that we go back to the cruise ship. I was able to indicate that this was my decision, also.

During this difficult time the word pressure came to thought, and I recalled a sentence from Science and Health that reads, "Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate" (p. 451).
