Protection while driving; back pain healed
For a period of my life I had difficulty staying awake while driving. One particular time I was aware that I was very tired, was fighting off the doldrums, but was close to home. Imagine my surprise to wake and find myself hanging upside down by the seat belt with my car resting on its roof. I was uninjured but embarrassed. God has healed me of this tendency to fall asleep while driving; it has never happened again in more than a decade of continued driving. Before any trip, prayer is part of my preparation, even before my suitcase is packed. This prayer is specific to acknowledge that God, divine Mind, is in complete control of all traffic. Similarly, my daily prayer affirms that I and all God's ideas are never out of His care and protection.
There have been other occasions of safety and protection while driving, and I am humbly grateful for them. One in particular stands out to me for the pure sense of God's ever-presence. While driving at high speed in a rural area just before dawn, the thought came to me, subtly, that I did not need to be going so fast. Shortly afterward, the more emphatic idea of slowing down came to my consciousness. I obeyed and began to slow down. Entering a blind curve, I saw a beautiful deer in my lane of the highway. As I continued to brake and control my car, the deer looked in my direction momentarily, then bounded away safely into a nearby wood. Had I not been obedient to the call to slow down, the deer would have been struck by my car.
