Don't let your thoughts weigh you down

If you were heading out for a nice relaxing walk, you wouldn't grab a couple of bricks and dump them into your pockets. Or if you were going for a swim, you wouldn't wrap yourself in thick towels that would be a drag against buoyancy. It's common sense not to weigh yourself down, not to work against your own freedom of movement.

The same common sense applies to one's thinking. Fearfulness, discouragement, and disappointment can be like bricks weighing us down, making us feel helpless. The best method for dropping these weights is the recognition that man is spiritual, the offspring of an all-loving God. Even in difficult times, we can affirm this truth and know that we are not helpless because God is "a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1).

Through her writings, Mary Baker Eddy provides Bible-based insights into how to experience God's healing power. Her major work, Science and Health, is a guidebook to understanding God. In it she writes: "In Science, all being is eternal, spiritual, perfect, harmonious in every action. Let the perfect model be present in your thoughts instead of its demoralized opposite. This spiritualization of thought lets in the light, and brings the divine Mind, Life not death, into your consciousness" (p. 407).
