Several months ago, this column included some questions without answers. We invited readers to respond from their own study and daily experience in seeking to understand God. The last column offered excerpts from some of the many answers we received to one of these questions. But one response seemed so much of a call to watch that we decided to print it in its entirety.

Q. If disease is mental, does that mean people who are sick "deserve" it?—from a reader in Ohio

A. This question reminded me of an experience I had about three years ago.
