Through the study of divine Science I have gained a clearer...
Through the study of divine Science I have gained a clearer understanding of man's identity, and this has enabled me to heal a variety of problems through prayer.
At one time sores that had developed on my back caused me a great deal of pain and discomfort. I rang a Christian Science practitioner and asked for treatment through prayer. I then decided to read from the Bible and Science and Health. As I studied, I prayed, affirming that God being good, He could not send pain or disease. He knows only health and perfection. Therefore, as the reflection of God, I could only be healthy and perfect. As I continued to pray, I gained a clear sense of peace and harmony. Not long after this, the pain subsided. In a few days the sores disappeared and healing took place.
As I continued to pray, I gained a clear sense of peace and harmony.
Another healing for which I am grateful involves human relations. A new acquaintance was planning to visit me, and I became rather worried about the visit. My worst fears were realised and nothing went according to plan. I became anxious, distressed, and unhappy. Later that day when I returned home, I opened Science and Health. As I read I became calm and able to think clearly. I realised that I wasn't adhering to the First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me"(Ex. 20:3). This commandment made me aware that I was looking away from God to another for my happiness. In doing so, I was accepting that the outcome of the visit could be either good or bad. Through prayer I began to see that God is the only source of life and of our happiness. As God's child, I could never lack happiness or be in want. This realization brought about healing. Several days later, when I again met up with this acquaintance, all went well. No longer was I plagued with the previous feelings of anxiety, unhappiness, and lack. I was free to express myself as God's child. The benefits from this wonderful demonstration didn't stop there, however. I was also able to make an overseas traveler feel at home and to help friends resolve a dispute peacefully.
The understanding of God's love and of man as His image and likeness continues to bless me and those around me. I am so very grateful for Christian Science.
