We had been invited by some close friends to bring the children and to come camping for a weekend. When we arrived, my husband took our two sons and headed off in one direction, and I took hold of my eighteen-month-old daughter's hand and headed down to explore the beach. We spent a short time at the water's edge and then walked along the rather long, narrow dock—stopping every so often to put our hands in the water. Suddenly, the dock ended abruptly. There was quite a big gap of water to jump in order to reach the shorter, wider dock connected by ropes to the end. Quickly, I turned and retraced my steps with the little one in tow. I knew this was no place for her to venture alone. After I shared my discovery with my husband, we agreed that we would have to keep a sharp eye on her during our visit.

The following day I wakened early and found a quiet spot to study the Bible Lesson as outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. This is always a very special time for me, when, in quiet communion with God, I affirm His allness surrounding all mankind. A short time later, everyone else was up, too, breakfast was finished, and preparations had begun for the festivities of the day—a big barbecue. As I was assisting with some of the arrangements, a verse from the Bible quietly came to me. It's from Second Timothy: "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (1:7). I remember thinking how much I love this promise of the Father, and I then continued with the preparations.

After the passage came to me a third time, I knew I needed to pray specifically about it. I reached out to the Father for a clearer understanding of Love's omnipotence and control. I continued praying until I felt peace surrounding me.
